In Bath

When you dream of your own personal bathroom oasis, you dream of something that is luxurious, relaxing and of course, relevant to the times. Unfortunately, bathroom trends come and go just like fashion trends. So, if you are going to pour out the money to create a new bathroom, you want to make sure you keep it timeless – that way you are not regretting your design choices five years from now. There are plenty of styles out there that have stuck with the times – and they can be incorporated into your next bathroom remodel so that your style is always timeless.

Avoid Trendy Colors – Use Bright and White
Bright, white colors are always timeless. You can use a hint of ivory or even an eggshell white, but using whites will keep your bathroom relevant. Trendy or bold colors will go out of style quickly. If you do want splashes of color, use your decor and accent pieces to bring in that design aspect. If you truly cannot live without color on your wall go with colors that are classics, such as blues, greens and yellows.

Incorporate Historic Finishes
Historic finishes do not date your bathroom; instead, they add a touch of personality, uniqueness and they keep it timeless. We are not saying you have to use antiques, but more so antique-style finishes. For example, a clawfoot tub is always timeless. Using a vanity with Victorian styling or older door knobs can add a timeless touch. When it comes to fixtures, add vintage-type nickel fixtures versus shining metals.

Subway Tile
Subway tiles on the floors and inside the shower are perfect for keeping your bathroom timeless. Today they come in a variety of colors and styles – including marble. If you want to keep the bathroom timeless, however, you will want your subway tile to be white or at least a marble-like white. That way you can change out your decor and even your wall color without having to re-tile your bathroom or backsplash.

Add in Dark Woods
Dark wood tones have been used in homes for as long as anyone can remember. Using deep walnut or espresso finishes on the floor is the perfect touch. Especially if you pair it up with crisp white walls. Surprisingly, your bathroom will still be warm and inviting.

Choose Your Vanity Wisely
Your bathroom vanity needs to match the timeless style of your bathroom. Some vanities are bulky with crisp, clean lines. While they fit nicely in a space, this modern look may become outdated quickly. Instead, stick to rustic farmhouse style vanities or Victorian, historical-looking vanities. You do not have to go to a garage sale to find these either – though there is nothing wrong with that. There are plenty of manufacturers that replicate the “old” look into their brand new bathroom vanities.

Go With Marble
Marble bathroom counters are clean, crisp and classy. They are also very timeless. Marble adds contrast to your white finishes and balances out white subway tile with ease. If you have a clawfoot tub in the room, your marble will accent its beauty. There are some quartz countertops that mimic marble as well – if you do not want to pay the price for true marble. But, marble has been used for centuries in kitchens and bathrooms as a natural stone that is always breathtaking.

Pedestal Sink
If the bathroom you are redesigning is a guest bath, consider using a pedestal sink instead of a vanity. Pedestal sinks are a no fail choice when it comes to timeless choices and they can actually make a smaller bathroom look larger. Finish it with nickel finishes and temper the coolness of the metal with a warm wooden floor.
